  • Need recomendations: Tires

    Hey guys,

So my bike has cupped front and rear tires and am needing to replace them. I am aware that I may have a suspension issue and will be setting S.A.G. this Spring as I am new to this bike. Hopefully I wont need to rebuild the forks and rear shock.
Anyways, I know you guys praise Metzler, but unfortunately they are just not in my budget this year.
What tires have a good balance between budget and performance as well as good wet traction?

    Thanks in advance?

I ran Shinko's last year, not a bad tire, good traction in the rain.

Should have started thread in tire talk, chain and sprockets

I'm happy with the Pirellis I got a couple years back. Price was good, works for my use (mostly paved road commuting, but occasionally down some muddy dirt/gravel roads).

So I decided after reading many reviews of all brands and pricing of the tires I can throw on this bike, I decided that safety is number 1 and went with the tire with the best reviews for traction, performance, longevity and qualities.
Ended up purchasing Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact Sport Touring. CDN=$353.24 plus tax. Not horrible...its only money..LOL.
Did I make the right choice?

Lol plan on suspension work. Kat suspensions suck. At the very least get new fork springs and oil. While they are apart, if I were you I'd put cartridge emulators in it. That takes some modifications though. Some drilling and braizing. Get an (I believe) r6 shock for the back. If it's too old get it resprung. It costs a pretty penny for all that work but it literally makes its a completely different bike. You will be amazed.

If you were going to spend that kind of money why did you ask for cheap, I would have recommended the Pirelli Angel sport/ touring or the PR4's, my personal opinion would have been Michelin PR4's @nd the Pirelli's.

Never asked for cheap.....asked for a good balance between budget and performance. I was willing to spend less, but my wife made a good point. She suggested I spend more since its the only thing between me and the pavement. I agreed....tires are not something to be cheap on.
Sorry for wasting everyones time reading this pointless thread.
I appreciate to all that contributed however....Thank you
I will be putting out a review, so I guess I will just add to this thread.

Michelin PR 4. Long lasting, great grip wet or dry.

I liked the Metzeler Z6's and pirelli strada's when I had my Kat, running Pilot Road 4's on the VFR these days.

Conti-motions is a good tire at lower cost.

Just bought a set of these but haven't put them on yet, they've gotta be better than the cheap Kendas that came on my bike.

I personally would recommend round ones, preferably made of rubber.

Well, I was hearing that the plastic oval ones gave the bike an extra 9 WHP but had a slight vibration at 180 MPH, and not very good traction when landing after taking some sweet jumps. I played it safe and took your advice

Kenda tires suck azz, I would not recommend any one use them except for peddle bikes, their moto tire is crap.
