Thanks but what is the tank vent and I have the floats set a little higher to allow for more gas available and the petcock seems to work OK I can suck on the vacuum hose and gas will come out so I don't really know what else it could be

Float heights should be stock, no exceptions.

Float heights are not how you tune a bike. Improperly set float heights allows too much fuel in, where it can seep down into your crankcase and oil.

Check your oil immediately, reset your float heights to proper spec and start there.

You don't fix things by breaking them.
