Maybe they're not passenger pedals but racing position pedals. No gears, no rear brakes, just front brakes & throttle.

It reminds me of my first sport bike, an '83 GSX750ES, which was 23 years old when I got it. It was a dandy, but had some 23 year old problems. You might disagree. I'd like to hear Mojoe's comment on the "new one". I'd be interested in one of those for sure.
