question about jetting and piping

My question is im thinking about jetting my 2000 katana and leaving my pipe stock. My question is this a waste of time since im leaving my pipe stock. Would I gain alot more power if I also added a aftermarket pipe. I dont mind my stock pipe and if there wasnt a big power gain I would just keep it stock and just jet it. But if it does make a big difference then I would put a pipe on it when I get it jetted. The other question is how do you determine what jet kit to use. Thank you for the help in advance.

As far as those mods go, most of the guys on this site run:

Ivans jet kit
after-market exhaust - either slip-on or entire system
5* timing advancer

I think that's the "skeleton" list. There is other stuff but I ride a "BigKat" and that's about all I've gathered as far as those littler cuter Kats go .
