gas tank pressure

have a 94 kat 600. notice the smell of gas when leaning over the tank, and now that its warmer i can hear pressure releasing from the gas tank cap. shouldnt it vent through the vent line instead of the gas cap??? maybe i have a bad gas cap?? or dont i know what im talking about

That psssssssss sound you hear is totally normal...its gas pressure just being released!

Theres a wee little hole on gas tank caps for pressure release. Tiz normal and nothing to worry about.

Actually there are two tubes inside the tank. One runs from the rim of the filler.
It is to allow spilled gas or water to drain from the rim so it doesn't enter the tank.
The pipe runs from the hole (visible with the flap open) right through the tank to the underside. The other runs from the "roof" of the tank to the underside. That should be where your tank is venting from, not the cap it's self.
