  • What's your winter projects?

I was wondering what everyone is doing over the winter to their bikes. I've got a good sized list of stuff I would like to get done between my truck and the 3 bikes I have in my garage. For the Katana I'll be adding heated grips finally (if I can get my bar ends off haha), speedbleeders, aux light, and possibly some new rotors and pads because my rotors are slightly grooved (they have 35k miles on them). As for the other 2 Bandit 1200's I have in the garage I've gotten most of the usable parts stripped off of the first one, and I got the motor started up and ready to swap into the other bike. After the motor swap I'll be repainting the bike silver (some of the paint is in bad shape) and selling it. On my truck I'm going to be rewiring up my aux lights with my new switches and putting on new brake rotors and pads and flushing the coolant. Here's some pictures of the bikes in the garage, if you have any winter projects feel free to post them.

Also ordering a new chain and sprocket on the 18th, After recieveing I'll be ready to start putting everything back together. I actually thought I would be finishing my projects later than I am but with the cold weather I have been able to do alot right in the comfort of my own apartment.

*Update: I'm am EXTREMELY happy with my advancer and jet kit. The extra power is silky smoooooth, I just love it!! I thought it would be a little jerky at the throttle but there was none of that, if you haven't already, DO IT!! You won't be disappointed.

Well, I need to get a new engine in my bike for starters .

But that's down the road when I can actually, you know, afford one.

            Hiya,
My '90 750 had been stolen and vandalized not too long before i dumb lucked into it. The guy i got it from had given me a box of misc parts that needed putting back on such as the little flapper door on the gas cap over the key slot. That was fun to figgure out and get reassembled and working correctly. misc body parts, a turn signal to fix. Those things got me thru the summer but now is the time for the real work. The new set of Metzlers is on. I scored a brand new in the package RK Gold chain and sproket set off Ebay for $60 which needs installin. Will tear down and clean the rear caliper while i'm there. Found a new rear axle assembly off E-Bay too. Fork seals and dust covers need replacing. All the bodywork needs to come off and have all the road grime goop and crud cleaned out of them. The last owner wasnt too fastidious about being clean. I should also chase down a few things like a left rear signal. I glued and rewired the existing one but it's still a little floppy. The carbs need a good thurough cleaning, and perhaps a stage 1 kit. Of course the plugs, oil, filter and such all need doin by spring. As i only have a 80k tophat heater in the garage it's probibly a good thing riding is at least 4 months away. Oh, also, my '80 Kawi KZ750 LTD needs cleaning (carbs), and the '79 Kawi KE100 needs fartin with too.

Finish replacing installed the SS brakelines.
              Wire up the 03 taillight.
Figure out the new position of the seat lock.
Finish body work on the 03 tail.
Fix fairing damage from PO and my no-speed drop.
              Paint the entire bike.
New chain and sprockets (cash is killing me on this one).
              New tires (see above)
Eventually strip and polish both wheels.
Repack bearings (never done this and need to learn how).
Few other small tidbits here and there.

Most of this won't get done until spring. I live in an apartment without room to move the bike inside. I have a carport but it gets too cold to work outside.
Pain is just weakness leaving the body.

Well, if I do put her up for the winter (such as it is here in Mississippi), here is the plan:
                    1. I'll be doing a valve adjustment
                    2. replace the brake fluid
                    3. installing the new clear front lenses (requested Christmas gift)
                    4. putting on new tank bag (requested Christmas gift)
                    5. setting pre-load correctly.

Sand, prime, paint, and find hardware for installing new fairings.
                      Somehow afford new tires.
Remove swing arm and get it powder coated.
                      Strip and paint headers.
Learn more about the bike so I can figure out what else needs to get done.

I got too much to do and not enough time to do it all in. My bike and the wifes bikes get done first then the 3 race mini's and then the other ongoing projects.....

My bike, not really gonna do a whole lot this winter:

                            New sneakers
                            Steel braided brake lines
                            Front and rear brakes
                            Valve adjustment
                            re-sync carbs
                            new battery
I may repaint in the spring, haven't decided yet.

Wifes bike needs a little bit:
                            New clutch plates
                            New belt
                            New master cyclinder
                            New levers
                            Replace or repaint gas tank

                            3 mini's:
                            Stock modified:
                            Repaint
                            Re-jet

                            Supersport:
                            Needs nothing...it's ready to go

                            F2/Gp:
Finish bump to 64cc (piston and cylinder)
                            Re-jet

                            Franken mini:
                            On going madness
Finish re welds for the new RD 200 motor
                            Finish welding frame and stiffening
Finish fabing ne expansion chambers to fit
                            yada-yada-yada

Now, if i get these finished, I have all new electronics for my Kz/Gpz 550.New coils and electronic ignition
                            Finish re-fitting new pipe
Paint and hang new body work

                            77Kz650 cafe
Don't even know where to start with this one....

Now that should keep me outta trouble for the winter.
