i was wondering how hard it is to make one of these things. With all the right measurements and a couple of tries i think i could make one that looks decent. Anyone ever tried making their own?

You don't even need any measurements...all you need is to know how to make a mold and work with fiberglass.

I have a friend who works with carbon fiber and even used that.

It's like arts and krafts for adults.

you can see the smooth one in this pic...kinda

JP is right, basic fiberglass skills will net decent results...

This is just IMHO, but for me, painting is harder since I have to use aerosols.....no access to compressor

Yep, my son Patrick makes them for the pre's (as well as undertails)
Not hard to make but a pita to make a (lasting) mold.

Any write up on the process?

Been thinking of this for winter and reading on different fibreglass sites but there seem to be a huge anount of different glass/resins/gelcoats to choose from.

I was just gonna wrap the seat and bike in clingfilm, use some spray expanding foam to lay a base, cut to shape then fibreglass over that, sound right?
