      • Yep its mine, swapped it last year as I needed something easier on the wrists, old war wound!!! The Fens don't flood, we have some clever Dutchman to thank for that, we may be very flat, but we have very large automated pumps to remove water very quickly along the drains and out into the Wash.

          • Clutch slave cylinder repair

After getting tired of a constant dragging clutch and crunching gears even after perpetual bleeding I decided to have a closer look at the (used) replacement slave cylinder that I installed not too long ago, here's what I found...

These must be made of really shitty monkey metal as it's knackered already even though it looked ok when I bought it.

Here's a pic of my solution...

I've bored it out and pressed in a stainless sleeve that I turned up, once pressed in I finish machined the bore to how it should be.

I'm going to fit it now and will report back how it goes.

            Colin.

                  • Thanks guys so far all seems well, I haven't been for a ride yet but with the clutch cover already removed I can now see lots of movement of the clutch inner "drum" and plates, the lever feels firmer too but that could just be my imagination... Hopefully the torrential rain and winds will have finished tomorrow and I'll be able to give it a go

                    Cheers

                    Colin.

                    • Okay, so I rode her to work this morning, the clutch is better than before but still drags so that the gearchange is clunky... I'm satisfied that all is ok mechanicaly so that just leaves stiction from the oil that I'm using, any suggestions for a good engine oil for an old 1100 ?

                      Colin.

                      • I think I'd check my steel plates in my clutch pack to make sure they were flat. It doesn't take too many times of burning the clutch to warp the plates then they are not totally dis-ingaging causing some drag. Just something to check to make sure all is well.

                        • Thanks for that Spectreboy but I've already done it, put them on our granite inspection block to make sure all was well

                          • For oil, I have been using this

Not sure what it is banded as in you area. No complaints. I think it did shift smoother than what was in it before. Cost is not too bad. Also I avoid full synthetics in old stuff that was not designed for it. Using the 10w-40.

                            • Thanks Subforry, I haven't seen that here but will look into it I'm using oil of the same viscosity but it's synthetic - all I could get at the time...
I'll take a ride "into town" this weekend and visit the one and only motorcycle shop around here to see what they have.

                              Cheers, Colin.
