Starter Jams

Every once in a while - like every 10 tries - the starter jams and will not turn over the engine. Apon pressing the starter button, instead of the starter spinning the flywheel, I can feel and hear the starter try and turn only to end with a thud. Is this a "jammed" starter. After several retries, the starter does it's job so far.

What could cause that problem?

What parts need to be replaced to solve this problem?

sounds like relay problem
if its the case you need to change the starter relay under the seat

start with the most basic (cheapest)
clean the switch contacts
check the battery and selenoid connections
replace the main power feed cable and ground
replace the selenoid
replace the starter

my starter will do this when its cold in the morning but just ..like the first time starting for the day then it does ok

I was having a similar problem I checkd and replaced everything so far but the starter. so now Im gonna buy a new one or a rebuilt starter and hope that does the job and it starts in the spring I missed a whole month of riding due to this lil problem.
