  • Quoted 4 Hrs for a valve adjustment?!!

Hey guys, I brought the bike in to get a new chain and sprockets installed. I asked them to adjust the valves while it's in, and they quoted me 4 hours to do the job. That's at $60 per, of course. I've done this job before, on previous bikes, and it took me an hour at most. Is the big Kat special?

Also, is it a shim style or a screw style?

    Thanks...

The 1100 is screw type. Do you need to pull the fairings? I know the actual adjustment is only about an hour but what about pulling fairings?

I think the 1100's are screw style adjusters...

I just did an adjustment... and it took me 1.5 hours. No gas tank, no plastics. Just pulling the carbs, opening the valve cover, and doing the job.

I guess I could see 3 hours maybe if all the plastics were on.

I'll do it myself. Maybe quoting me 4 hours was their way of telling me they don't want to do it. Pulling the plastic is no big deal. The carbs have to come off?

No , but you gotta get the cables out of the way . I HATE taking the cables off , so I just pull the carbs out .

            Yeah, that's what I did.

I did take the choke cable off 'cause it's easy to put back on....
