  • Got over my anti front brake habit today...almost hit a beaver!

I know the front brake provides the majority of braking power, but I'm a big guy and had been keeping off the front brake due to balance issues (diving too much due to my weight).

Today I flat out abandoned that bad habit when rounding a corner at 60mph and came face to face with a 40lb beaver staring me in the face. I managed to come to a complete stop about 3 feet in front of the thing....it was massive and did not give a darn that he was in the middle of the road. I had to actually ride around him.

Front brakes do work, and braking correctly does do wonders. I'm glad I recently took that rider course, as I'd been practicing fast stops all last weekend.

At least once a month you should be in a parking lot giving the front brake all you have..
And the rear brake until it locks..

I've done that for all the years I have ridden.

hahaha....yeah I knew those were coming. I can honestly say it was the first beaver encounter that stopped me dead in my tracks instead of plowing through.

Not to mention giving the beaver all you've got at least once a month.
