I know the front brake provides the majority of braking power, but I'm a big guy and had been keeping off the front brake due to balance issues (diving too much due to my weight).
Today I flat out abandoned that bad habit when rounding a corner at 60mph and came face to face with a 40lb beaver staring me in the face. I managed to come to a complete stop about 3 feet in front of the thing....it was massive and did not give a darn that he was in the middle of the road. I had to actually ride around him.
Front brakes do work, and braking correctly does do wonders. I'm glad I recently took that rider course, as I'd been practicing fast stops all last weekend.
