You might want to try this guy's techniques. His bike is all over the place while he tries to slide his knees.

If he would just get his upper body down, he probably would have been successful. Instead, he and his bike are unstable because of his body position. OK, so even as a noob I'm less scary than that guy. Well, I hope I am anyways.
Of course, I'm not to the point that I feel the need to drop a knee down yet.
If I was riding and saw that anywhere near me I'd be giving LOTS of room to that rider.
