Yes, *adventure
I finished wet-sanding and buffing today. Whew! A lot of work buffing by hand. It looks spectacular though!
I had a LOT of orange peel. The PO said he coated it with several coats of clear...something like 6. (seemed a little excessive to me, but at least I wouldn't really have to worry about burning through if I was careful.) I'm not sure why I trusted him, he lied about several other things on the bike...and was a complete idiot; I have come to determine. Actually, 3 of the smaller body panels didn't have any clear...but had several coats of black. (I could tell by the color of water coming off the panel while sanding). I ended up starting with 1000 grit sandpaper, I did roughly 2 passes per panel with this (3 on the tank). I then did another 2 passes with 1500 grit. I was worried at first about going to the higher grit too early...but I'm glad I did. I thought the higher grits only smoothed out scratches left from lower grits...but it actually clears up the reflection more than the lower grit. After that, each panel got about 5 coats/buffs(?) of Turtle Wax Polish. Then I washed the bike, after it was dry a thin coat of polish would show up clouding the paint. I took a clean towel and removed it. I took my time over 3 days doing this while taking breaks from mixing a project. The previous owner also let it fall over in a parking lot and scratched up the left fairing under the handlebar (you can see it in the old picture, just to the right of the front turn signal). Hmm...can't much see it anymore, can you? Touch up paint before wet-sanding it.
So to get the "new" paint job I spent about $18.
I also added wheel reflection tape.
Now I have this.
