  • New Boots!

Since I started riding the Kat in 2007, I have been making do with my combat boots. Finally got the funds to pull the trigger on some MC specific boots. Came home from work and found these at my door step.

I know they aren't full length racing boots like most here have, but dammit Florida weather is too damn hot. The lady at the local CycleGear disliked them becaus there was no hard ankle protector (they are soft padding only in the ankles), but combat boots don't even have padding . I will give a review when Isaac decides to pass and I get a good couple of weeks in them.

most race boots have better ventilation then those "shoes" so that arguement is kinda moot. And I agree that ankle support is key and your missing our heavily on that. Says something when even the normally moronic staff at Cycle Gear is saying the same thing...

I didn't just buy them because it was hot here, I also have to get in and out of them rather quickly most days. I wear full gear everywhere I ride and have PT every morning (clothing/shoe change 1), then have to ride to where I work (change 2 have to shower and get back in full gear), then have to change into work clothes (change 3), and another change into full gear to go home (change 4). Full boots are a little much with that many changes.

As for ankle protection, I have braces with hard pucks for soccer. I may wear those for extra protection....

1.) They have this thing called a car, its pretty practical.

2.) As a lifelong soccer player (22 years) ankle pucks will be useless at 75mph...

I mean, they're better than tennis shoes, at least your feet wont get all scraped up

It's only practical if I spend less on gas in it. I have a pretty long commute and gas prices are high enough to justify the bike.

sky has a point. but on the other side, my full length racing boots with full ankle protection take as much time, if not less, to put on and take off.. these dont have much ventilation but there never hot either. my jacket is a differant story but as boots go i personally dont see a reason to get low tops when high tops are better in every way.

and they make you look cool

maybe not when walking tho as mine squeek
if all else fails......... Get a hammer

I agree. These have much more protection than a lot of footwear I've seen on the road.
Get over yourself. For me to think you are an idiot, I would first need to think of you.

Hello sonosam. I agree with Sky from what I here there is not alot of gear running the streets in Florida, but as a "retired" avid dirtbiker I personaly would not wear anything other than a full cut boot. In the beginning I wore work boots and banged my ancle up good, so I went out right away, well not right away, had to let the swelling go down and bought a proper pair of boots. Now I would not wear anytihng else.

Also hats off to you for wearing full gear in that Florida climate.

I do see, more often than not, the shorts, flip flops, and no helmets here, passengers included. I still haven't switched over to a mesh jacket although it would certainly feel better while sitting at a stop light.

As far as ankle protection goes, I know I would benefit from it, but when you get a decent deal (I didn't pay anything close to full retail) and you know you can get in and out of these in less than 30 seconds (couldn't with the full boots, I tried multiple brands and times), you can almost not say no. In my case, you can't say no. Like I said in my first comment, combat boots don't even have padding and I have been riding in them since 2k7. These are definitely an upgrade.

Also, I learned long ago when I started riding a Kat that I was going to take sh*t from everyone and that I don't have to explain myself to anyone

I'd wear them, maybe not for a "spirited" ride on the dragon, or at the track...But for what you are doing with your commute, why not.

Heck, I wear high top Reebok zig-zag basketball sneakers. They do have a ton of padding on the sole and ankle area, though of course, they pale in comparison to proper boots. I'm working on that though. Looking online everyday for that deal.
