  • Hardshell backpacks

Looking into picking up a hardshell backpack. I've heard both that they can help or wreck you in a crash??? Anyone running one, Suggestions?

I'm thinking either a Boblbee Megalopolis, or a Ogio No Drag from their mach series. Maybe a hydration pack.

I could see them hurting you in a crash because of the shape they are
if you landed on your back the pack could make your back flex in bad
ways. Why not just get saddle bags?

I've never been a big fan of saddlebags. If I found a good looking saddlebag I guess I'd be interested. I like the fact that with a backpack I can take it with me off the bike if I need to.

I just bought these from Walmart for $50

I was a backpack person to until this summer with the heat wave we have
had I couldnt use one because it blocks the vents on my jacket.

Just my thoughts not trying to change your mind.

A soft nap sack would be ok- a hard back pack- not for me, no way. To each his own.

I like the look of those. I found a couple sets that Nelson Riggs makes, Only problem is there wicked expensive. That's one reason I figured grab a backpack I can have a dual purpose for one buy.

on short trips back pack are alright... but on the long hauls saddle bags reduce the fatigue of having all that weight on your back.
Please, Just go home, relax, and have a think or two... hell... have as many as you can handle! It'll do all of us some good.

Im not saying dont grab a backpack I have a nice
Ogio soft back pack to It just doesnt hold the stuff
that the saddlebags can. For the price of the bags you can
still get a nice soft back pack and have both

                        True, I can do that.
I'll be doing a bunch of longer trips and I will need the space ... I wonder what else there is for saddle bags? ( I believe some more searching is in order) Those hardshells look really cool though.

They do look really cool but they have a hefty price tag
There are a good amount of saddle bags out there check ebay
for sport saddle bags or read through that walmart saddle bags thread
I think a couple others mentioned which ones they use

I just got the ogio Mach 5 and love it. The form of the pack reduces back draft making it so my bell helmit doesn't lift at speeds around 65-80. Also, the Mach 5 expands about 5" so there is enough room for about 2 days worth of clothes, a pair of shoes, a laptop, & hydro unit. I don't go on really long trips so this is bag was perfect for me
