  • Squad II backpack, anyone use one of these?

So I was browsing online at gear and came across this

I think it's pretty cool and I'm interested in the fact that it's a backpack with a full chest harness. What I'm wondering is if anyone out here has one and if it's worth the money? Is the chest piece a good and comfortable thing to have or is it a nuissance?

    Much appreciated

I would like to hear from anyone with experience, as well. Looks like a great piece of gear. Would have to go with black, though.

Scout you could go up to Cycle Gear and try it on as they carry em. They look like they are a great backpack but I have done nothing more then try it on in stoe and play around with it...

looks great, I've got an icon high-vis vest for riding on post, really like the quality/construction. Looks like a great product.

i have a squad pack, but it's not that version.... the thing i didn't like about mine was that there was a plastic handle on the grip on the top of the bag... it greatly interfered with turning my head (oh! and, all the little pulls for the zippers fell off within a couple of months.... that's a p!ss off)
i can't see in that pic if there is one on the new generation.

just something to look out for =)
the kat may be the gixxer's retarded cousin, but she's a hefty broad... and i do loves me some girth between my thighs.

Looks good, the only reason I would reccomend the Urban instead (while it doesnt have a vest) is that it has a really convenient system to carry your helmet...no worries about it getting snagged while you're off the bike

              agreed

I figure I'll just have to go try them out, I was hoping someone owned one and could let me know how comfortable they are on the long rides.

Thanks for the heads up KK

I was at Quantico Marine Base the other day and they have a tiny little motorcycle gear section at their Exchange. With the strange mix of gear they had there, they had one of these. I tried it on, and came to the conclusion that this was just too much work and didn't hold enough for me to want. I'd just stick with my bag and a cargo net on the backseat.

I only ride with a backpack when I have too much gear to fit in the tank bag. It's a strain on the back, shoulders and neck on long rides.

That said, I have looked at this bag several times and have come to the same conclusion as ajsnow. It seems to be too much work and too small to fit everything I carry. I did like that it meets all the base regs and has an id pocket (the one I looked at did anyway).

i have one of these and used it all last summer for riding from virginia to nc and back every weekend. it has plenty of room for 2 days clothes, a laptop, and various other stuff. you can always put stuff in the zip out helmet pouch too. there is also a side zipper that makes the pack larger. the ipod pocket on the front vest part is worthless if you change songs. i was shocked after a trip to nc from va and back in the same day how much strain it took off my shoulders by spreading the load to my chest some too.

clark, by AR, we should be able to wear this inplace of the vest....
Scout, i dont know the Reg's in the marine corps, so you might have to check....

It does look pretty cool. I hate ride with a backpack because of the strain on my back and shoulders. But then again I only use it when I can't put all I need in my tank bag.
