  • Textile against Leather.. What to do?

Ok.. Here's the story.. I got some GC's at NewEnough.. Guy wants to buy my jet black Joe Rocket RASP textile jacket from me for $150. NE has the Teknic Chicane leather jacket in Red/Black for $149. I pretty much won't pay but maybe $50 because of my GC's I have for NE. I've been on some LONG rides in temps of 100+ and stop/go traffic. The RASP is not fully ventilated. It has two strips in front, zip down section on each elbow and on the back.. But no matter what, with my underarmor on, I'm soaked when I get home. So I figure a fully perforated frontal leather jacket can't be ANY worse than my heavy black textile coat I have.

Its a good deal on my part, minimal money I have to spend and a decent leather jacket out of it. What do you think? It'll help me loose weight, thats one good point LOL. I'll be sweating so damn much.. Keep in mind, most of my commute is to work and back. 92% of that is on the interstate with a few lights in between. Only time I hit stop/go is if I'm riding for the hell of it. So its not like im subjected to stop/go traffic everyday.

This is Austin, TX btw.. Temps over 100+ normal during summer LMAO.

    What I have now!

    What I'm considering

    Joe Rocket RASP
    33.33%
    9
    Teknic Chicane Leather Jacket
    66.67%

Storm leather will hold up better if you are ever to go down. Most of the time with Textile it is a one time use. you go down it is done for. With leather you go down most of the time you can still wear the jacket. I know leather is hotter we get the same temps here in TN but with 75-100% humidity. I say get it since you are not out of pocket that much.

Have you ever tried on Teknic? I literally tried on everything Motoliberty had in house and could only find one brand that fit. Just my $.02.

I have one of each. So that's my recommendation but as far as choosing between the red or black jacket.. I'd take the black since that's the color of your bike.

Go with the Chicane jacket Storm Being it gets real hot down there, you may want to consider getting an evaporative cooling vest - TechNiche makes one for like $76.00 which also has removable sleeves. I have one, and in 90+ weather with just the vest on, you will remain almost too cool till the water dissipates (usually after 3-4 hours of straight riding). I wear leather when I'm riding, and textile when I'm puttering around.

OK, I am a perfect result of one time down wearing textile is it. I have a hole in the elbow that is supposedly kevlar, luckily there is a pad behind it. With the leathers, you will be alot better off!!

make sure the leather fits .. as leather jackets almost always will be a different size than textile .. but im with steve .. a selection never hurts
