  • 09 GSX-R 600 review.. by me

lets just say i love it!!! the end. jk

As I said in my thread a while back, (http://katriders.com/vb/showthread.php?t=90413 ) <--pics in there.. I recently picked up a pearl white 09 GSX-R 600. Since then I have put about 800 miles on it and figured I would write a review. Im not a bike guru so its not gonna be crazy detailed but here goes nothing. Overall the bike itself, I love it. Awesome power all the way through the RPMs. at about 5k rpm, you can feel yourself hit the power band, and the bike seems to want to just jump right out from under you! One thing I really like is the A B C mode. They did it on the 08 1000’s and I BEILIEVE this is the first year they put it on the 600’s. A mode is full power B mode is a little less then full power and C mode is, obviously, a little less power then B mode. You can switch it on the fly with just the push of a button. I like it a lot for the simple fact that on wet roads or cold tires I can just pop it into C mode and not worry as much about the back end coming out from under me.
As for handleing…awesome!! Don’t have much to compare to other then the Kat and an R6 (only two bikes ive ever rode in the ‘twisties’ that we have here in florida)..but its awesome. Will turn on a dime it seems like.
Im sure people will disagree with me, but I actually feel that it is more comfy then my kat was. My wrists, back, legs, nothing ever hurts after I ride. (other then my butt..but that is kinda part of the deal when riding bikes.) it is a TON more comfortable then the r6, I must say. (looks better too) hahah J I also love the digital speedo and well all the gauges. They just look cool in my opinion.
The only cons I have about it so far is 1. The catalytic converter. It’s a pain in my rear end bc to get decent sound out of it, you gotta buy a full system and get rid of the cat.($$$$$). I bought a two bros slip on for it and it sounds good..but nothing like my buddies two bros slip on (on an 06 gix). 2. No gas guage. Kinda pain in my butt also bc…the gas light flashes when there is under .5 gal and stays on steady when under .3 gal but it always starts blinking..then will go off..then sometimes it will be on steady for like 10 miles then go off. I never know exactly when I need gas lol.

But anyways that’s all I have. Im bored and I figured I would write about it! Sorry for the novel!!!

I sat on a newer GSXR and think it feels good for a SS bike. I had an 07 R6s for almost 2 years and know exactly what you mean about comparing the GSXR to it. The R6s clip ons are at a weird angle compared to most super sports.

Seriously! What are these companies thinking?

"You go so fast you don't NEED to know how much gas you have."

Mine just has a stupid light too, what a dumb trend. They should have electronic fuel gauges like Cadillacs.
90% of motorcycle forum members do not have a service manual for their bike.

Glad you like the bike! Actually, 08 was the first year they offered the S-DMS on the 600 and 750s. There is around a 20% power drop from mode to mode. One of my buddies bought the white and silver 08 600. I like it, too bad he has wrecked twice on it.

That's what we (the guys at work that ride) told him. Dipstick endo'd on day 3, target fixation in a curve and off the road he went. Last week, too much throttle in A mode, spun the rear tire, panicked and highsided.

We tried to get him to practice and even met with him on day 2 in a new subdivision (no homes, just nice paved streets) to practice his turning. Idiot shows up with his 20 yr old GF on the back. She was in a tank top, jeans and sandals. Needless to say, we got her a ride home and chewed him out. Obviously, it didn't help. Just another 23 yr old guy that thinks he knows it all and he don't know ****.

Don't know why he is keeping the bike, none of us will ride with him anymore. At least until his attitude changes.
