Simplify wiring harness

I am doing various custom pieces on my motorcycle and want to simplify the wiring harness where I can. I've got a couple questions before I proceed.

I have a 92 600, will any pre 600 harness work or did I need a specific year range?

Is there anything special I should watch for when cleaning up the harness? I will be removing parts for the gauge cluster and some other odds and ends. I figure it's mostly straight forward.

88-95 are those most simular. 96-97 are simular but, major changes to the hand controls and ignition
