Just a guick possibly stupid guestion. Does it matter what side of the coil goes to which plug or is it all good as long as 1&4 are on the same(left) coil and 2&3 on the right?

I THINK the orange wire goes on top, and the other wire on bottom.... but I don't know if it makes a difference. I always mark the coils with masking tape before disconnecting them.

Working on a project bike and think the po has 1&3 and 2&4 together. I'll have to check when I get home. I just want to make sure the plugs are hooked to the correct spot of the coil. Think the coils are wired right because the bike runs. 1&2 just get real hot& 2&4 stay kinda cool. Thinking carb issue but wanted to double check that its firing when its suppose to.

if 2&4 are cold, you should be able to swap the coils side for side if the problem moves with the coil, it's a problem with the coil.

Sorry I told you wrong. 3&4 are cold. I checked and sure enough the po had 1&3 on the left coil and 2&4 on the right. I swapped the 3&4 wires so now the plugs are grouped to the correct coils. I left 1 and 2 alone since they appeared to be firing correctly. Here is how the plug wires are now connected. Am i on the right track or is it still wonkie and need to swap 1 &4 around

the same coil shouldn't be going to 3&4. It should be 1, 3 and 2, 4

The Left coil (as you sit on the bike) fires cylinder 1&4. The right side does 2&3. That should be your firing order. Obviously cylinder 1 has a really short wire and 4 is longest. 2&3 are same length and shouldn't matter if those are switched around.

Disregard my firing order... but the same coil shouldn't fire two cylinders next to each other.

Ok think i got it. Was just skiming some older post and read that 1 and 4 fire at the same time but the spark is only used by one cylinder at a time so it shouldn't matter which wire goes to which plug, as long as they are hook to the correct coil. I'll try firing it up tomorrow ( killer head ache and just don't feel like it tonight). Like I said 1 and 3 were on the left coil and 2 and 4 on the right. That explains why cylinders 3 and 4 stayed cold. they weren't firing at the correct time. also why the plugs look brand new in those cylinders. maybe now it will run right. I'm supprised the bike ran at all with it wired that way.
