  • Need help from Post guys - Alternator wiring.

Im wiring my 2003 Bandit motor and the alternator has a different plug than my Pre. Im assuming Bandit and Katana wiring will be the same with the alternator. (It has been 99% the same so far.)

The plug (see pic) looks like an upside down "T". One wire should be hot, with the key off. I need to know which part of the "T" has 12v with the key off, bike not running. I would guess, but I really dont want to cook my alternator.

I know its a pain to get to, Im hoping someone will have thier plastics off for winter mods and can help me out. Thaks.

Mine is put away, with all the plastics on it. It's a 2006 600 Kat. While it would be a pain to get to, and I'm totally going to wait and see if anyone else can help first, I will be willing to eventually check this for you if no one else does. Just let me know.

Shouldn't the wiring diagram show which is what? The diagram is floating around here somewhere.

You are forcing me to do it aren't you? I would have swapped the katana alternator personally if that is a option.

              I know that steve,
Which would be easier for you Hemi at this point, get a coupler for the bandit or change the gears on the alternators?
I will get the cover off tomorrow and take a pic for you! I have to get batteries for the digi first.

For the life of me, I can't remember which is which. One is hot all the time, and one is hot on ignition I believe. I just can't remember. Hope somebody can snap a picture of it for you. I stuck a generator of that style on my last kat when it went out, but I don't remember how I figured out what wires went where. Sorry.

I appreciate it guys. I forgot all about changing gears. I guess I will do that instead. Probaly better to have the original Alternator anyways since Im running the stock wiring. I thought I read somewhere that the Kat alterator has a higher output? Dunno.

Yeah, I realized that just now sorry.

Sorry, I don't have any pics that show that closely enough to make out the wires.

What the wiring diag. shows me is the large post on the alternator is positive and will take a battery cable eyelet.

I thought that was the ground.

Im going to take your advice and just swap alterator gears. I know where all the wires go to the old alternator. Atleast this way it will prevent me from overloading something.

Edit: I just noticed the alternator has a "B" next to the post, and that normally does stand for positive feed. Either way, Im going to use my pre-alternator.
