Anyone ever install Dragon Lights on their Kat?!

I was wondering if there's any wiring or install tricks for a '90....

Any info would help! (My first bike, and I'm really not the most mechanically or electrically inclined, although I do have a basic understanding)

Heres the link to the website:

And these are the instructions I found online:

Looks like the hardest part would be going through the grips themselves, everything else seems pretty straight forward. If the blue and red flash on the bar ends, they may be illegal. I'd ask before going through the trouble of putting them in.

The only way I can see them being legal in most states is if you keep the running lights on amber

As to the legality of Dragon Lights.... I'm pretty sure if I keep them on red or amber as running lights, coupled with their use as extra brake lights and turn signals, I could justify their use for safety if that type of accent isn't normally street legal.

Chris.... I was wondering if you could verify or could confirm that our laws make it clear that as long as you have unobtrusive running lights on the bike (being red or amber) that it's alright?!

I see from their instructions they are intending you to pass the wires between the throttle tube and the bar... Not saying it isn't possible, but from my memory that is going to be tough. This is why on my LED bar ends I include a replacement bar that has a "secret" groove cut out for the wires to safely exit. Make sure you don't run the wire between the throttle tube and the grip... you would likely pull the wires out of the bar end when you give it gas or create an unwanted cruise control at a time when you aren't expecting it.

Another problem I see after reviewing their instructions is the mounting style of the bar end. I could be completely wrong here since I only have a 98+, but I thought that even the pre-98 Kats used a threaded & welded in piece that a M6 bolt simply threaded into and not the "expanding rubber" installation a lot of other bikes use. If this is the case, then you would have to drill out/dremel out the plate that is in there to clear open the ID of the bar.

On the pre98s our bar ends are held in my a screw that is goes into a threaded portion inside or the bar.

Sounds like the 98+. So that will be the first hurdle for the OP to overcome.

solutin there is to just replace the bars with standard hollow tubes, and mount the lights on the end.

you could actually run the wires in the other end of the bar if you wanted.

yer gonna miss your bar ends tho... increased vibration.

                          haha. 'preciate it!

Ya, I'm pretty sure I'll be alright with the laws in OH. As for installation, we'll see how it goes. As for getting new bars and making a groove the wiring, if I have to I might just sell the lights. Not sure yet. That just seems like too complicated a process for my skill set and ability.
