  • Turns over but wont catch

My 1994 Katana 600 wont start unless boosted or push started. I have recently done Plugs, Coils, and cleaned the carbs. When i try to start it the engine turns over and over no problems but it wont catch unless its hooked up to a running car or is push started.

What is the coil voltage while trying to start? It needs to be 11v or higher to get an easy start. You may need to clean all wire connections and have the battery tested under load.

If it got that low it won't last long FYI. Does a number on it.

                    First,
you can't wail on the starter like that. It's not designed for it.

                    Second-
You need 3 things to start: Fuel + Air + Spark
Is there fuel in the bowls?
                    Is the petcock operating correctly?

                    Is the airbox seated properly?
Is the air filter installed correctly?
Is the airbox drain tube capped?

Are you getting spark at the spark plugs?
                    Are the connections good?
                    Are the coils connected correctly?

                    After that... more questions...
                    Do you have compression?
What are the leak down readings?
                    -Steve

The only reason i held it that long was to show it wasnt even trying to catch. Yes fuel in the bowls, air filter is in properly, drain tube is not capped, good spark and good connection. compression seems good but i dont have a compression tester but can get one from work tonight.

If all those things were good, it would start.... so....

Is your petcock in the right position?

i think the problem is fuel, it is leaking fuel out of the third carb and possibly the second but im not sure if its enough for it to not run.

Float height or float needle not sealing? Where is it leaking from, hose port, bore or bowl.
