Changed stator cover and oil

Alright so I changed my stator case cover and my oil filter, got out all the oil and put in 3 quarts oil and my low / full hour glass still hasn't gone up and the bike has been smoking which I assume is oil on the exhaust headers... So I put in another quart and still no rise in the glass. Does it need more oil due to emptying the crank case cover too?

They hold about 5 quarts of oil. Bike should be straight up, not on the side stand when checking oil the level.

Yeah I put 5 quarts in and it's good to go now, next project tomorrow wire harness lol thanks for everything so far 92xjunker!
