  • powerband????

What would cause the powerband not to kick in on a 05 katana 600? Their is no sudden change in power at all through the rpms or all gears.

Do you happen to be used to riding 2 stroke dirt bikes? The reason I ask is generally they have a much more drastic point when the engines begin making more power, in some cases it feels like a switch has been thrown. Four strokes tend to have a lot not more bottom end power and the transition to the point that the engine is making the most power is much smoother and less noticeable.

Actually the power band is above 6000 rpm, its not pull you off the seat but, as stated its a more TOURING power band. The katana IS A TOURING BIKE after all.

I gave my dad my kz750 when I got the kat. It had a powerband above 7000 that really did tear your face off. That said, the katana has just as much power up there, but has a much smoother increase in power through the range.

I understand that the powerband doesn't pull all that much. What I'm saying is it's just not kicking in at all. When it used to kick in I could feel it but know there is nothing.

the powerband on a kat isn't really a spike in torque like some bikes, but more of a straight line acceleration. but you should be noticing it. maybe you're not getting enough air or fuel to support the bike's request at those rpm's

This would be the only time I would use in tank carb cleaner, check the air filter and plugs.
