  • GSX-R1100 Cams in a Post 750

Just paid for some 1990 GSX-R1100 cam shafts off eBay and was wondering if there is anything I should look out for while installing them. I'm putting them in a post 750. I've searched around on the forums and from my own knowledge I know to do the swap at TDC and make sure the alignment marks are in the right place when done. Also to adjust the valves and sync the carbs.

    My main questions are:
-Do I need new valves springs?
-Will the valves hit the pistons if I install it wrong/Is this engine an interference or safe engine?
-Will the red line of the engine change?
-I know I already bought cams, but are the 1989 GSX-R750 cam shaft better than the GSX-R1100 shafts?
-I have a FactoryPro jet kit, should I consider putting in 120 mains instead of the 177.5 stock? And, should I raise the needle one notch? Just ball park estimates on that since I will likely try a few setting and see what works.

Not new to engines, but I'm new to overhead cams and bike engines in general, so any help is appreciated.

You'll need to check the lobe count on those against yours. I believe the post is a 4 lobe and the gixxer1100 shafts are 8 lobe. They will not work.

The 98+ Katana is 4 lobes, 100%. I can't remember the exact year they changed, but I'm fairly certain a 1990 GSXR 1100 was 4 lobes as well.

The picture on eBay shows 4 lobes on the 1100 shafts.

750 or 1100 gsxr cams can and will fit.
They are all 4 lobe per can except for 91-92

          Redline stays the same,
Stock valve springs are fine (unless they are aftermarket cams that specify otherwise megacycle for example )
Do the valves hit the pistons if you install it wrong? I donno, but don't install them wrong.

Also invest in some assembly lube (permatex ultra slick)
And red lock tight if you need to install new cogs or gears or whatever you wanna call it.

Thanks, would have forgotten to do that. The sprockets are going to need to be swaped from my cams onto the new ones and I wouldn't have thought to put lock tight on there.

Those are 1991, I bought 1990. The picture shown on eBay show 4 lobes and even this parts diagram has a drawing of a 4 lobe shaft: http://www.suzukipartshouse.com/oemp...am-shaft-valve

I'm not saying they aren't right I'm just saying to check. The asshats on fleabay are selling oil cooled motor cams in a year they were water cooled.

Yeah, I had seen that. I reported a couple of them to eBay for selling the wrong stuff. I am pretty sure these are right. I got them in the mail today and they have the correct number of lobes. Plus, the seller seems to be parting out a 1990 GSX-R1100 as his page has a large number of GSX-R1100 parts for sale.

I would like to confirm they are the right cams, do you have a source for the lobe dimensions for the 1990 GSX-R1100 cams? I've looked around couldn't find them. Saw lots for the 750 though.

Here is what I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Gsxr110...vip=true&rt=nc

The manual shows standard intake lobe height at 33.378 to 33.918 mm
and exhaust at 33.533 to 33.573 mm
