Cylinder Head Bolts

Is it really necessary to loosen and re-torque the cylinder head bolts every 6000km like mentioned in the manual? I have a 96 katana and I don't want to snap one of the bolts trying to loosen it, its an old engine they might be seized.

I do it when I check the valves. I think of it as preventive head gasket maintenance.
