  • Gas will flow and stop flowing

    Bike: 98 katana 600
Problem: Fuel will flow into the fuel filter then stops flowing. I have replaced the fuel filter and I took apart the petcock cleaned it, which was not dirty, and reassembled it the proper way. While I'm riding the bike itwill start to sputter. I will pull over and see that the fuel filter is slowly filling or that its not and I will have to move it around and it will start flowing but stop again after riding. The petcock is in the free flowing position. What do you think the problem could be and is this a gravity fed line.

Yes, gravity fed. Probably the wrong fuel filter is being used.

I will definitely double check and change it out if needed and adgust the fuel filter and hose to utilize the gravity fees better. Thanks for the reply I will post the outcome.

OK so I've changed out the fuel filter and I made sure the fuel filter is in a correct position. One thing I've notice is that the fuel delivery is not a lot at all I would say very little comes out at a time. Should it fill up the fuel filter when flowing? Right now when there is fuel in it its just a little on the bottom of the fuel filter

Sounds to me like you are not getting sufficient vacuum to the fuel system.

very possible... check the vacuum line for cracks, and not just at the ends.. check the whole piece of tubing..
