  • Question about my clutch?

This morning I started my 05 600 and started riding, then as soon as I shifted into 2nd, I got a soft grinding sound and it vibrated the bike a bit. Turned right around and put the bike in neutral. Started rolling it into the garage and right where the shifter is on the left, it was making a clicking like sound.

Just wanted to see from you guys what the problem is. I can probably search the forum to find how to fix it, but if I try and get it to a mechanic, do you think I could drive it?

    Thanks guys!

Could be a number of things, in neutral pushing it could be the chain if its worn... could be something in the trans... hard to tell without doing some investigating on your part.

Anyone else have some helpful advice? How could I diagnose the problem?

How worn is the chain and rear sprocket?.. beyond that you're going to have to pull bodywork and pull the sprocket cover and have a look to see where the noise is coming from...

there's no simple answer here... you're going to have dig into it...

it sounds like a chain to me. Either way, plastics (at least the main fairing and the one under it on the chain side) are going to have to come off to find out. My chain clicked something fierce when it started to reach end of life. If you still have your center stand, you can use that to get the rear tire off the ground, put it in nuetral and spin it. Slowly at first may help identify the sound or its physical origin.

If it is your chain, DON'T buy a cheapo. I bought a $70 volar chain last riding season and way fucked by the end of the year and I dont rag on the ol' girl toooo bad. Get an EK, RK, or DID brand chain. I have an EK x-ring chain and i like it. When you buy a chain, you gotta replace your sprockets too. GSXFJim up there is the man to talk to about sprockets. At least PM him n check out his website.

I'll dig into the chain this weekend and if that's what it is, I know about Jim and I'll get the good stuff. No cheap stuff for me. That's guys
