High Idle, backfirin, and sucks gas like Debbie

So I was just given a 1993 Katana 600 by a friend of mine.

It runs and is a blast to ride, just has a few issues, and I'm not experienced enough at trouble shooting to figure it out.

So my symptoms include:
idle around 2500rpm, any lower and she'll start to sputter and die.
backfiring until around 5500rpm then she starts to run mostly smooth.
and she's only getting about 140 miles to a tank of gas, seems kinda low to me.

Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

mostly likely the first things it will need will be a full carb cleaning and synch, and making sure the air/fuel screws are set correctly. you might try to pour some seafoam in the tank and see if that helps the idle issue any, but probably a carb service is going to be in order.

Clean, adjust, tune the carbs. Use OEM airbox and clean OEM equiv. air filter.

Replace any old/worn/dried out or cracked rubber lines, boots, O-rings, seals, or caps.

Sounds like she's the town whore and she's thirsty. Clean your carbs and make sure no vacuum leaks.

140 mi until it hits reserve? Or 140 mi until it is completely empty? I get about 160 mi before I hit reserve.
