  • what damage have I done

    I need some help

    I have a 2006 750 with 17K miles on it.

On Saturday I was out riding. On the end of my ride the bike started to jerk as I attempted to gain speed, and the rpm's very not changing.

On Sunday I took it back out, and it does this more frequently now.

I was thinking my clutch needs to be replaced, am I correct?

Start with simple first. Start it up and see if all the tubes get hot..... you may have dropped a cylinder which means new plugs.
sigpicLife throws you curves......enjoy the ones you get when riding.

hmm I did noticed it felt like it wasnt idling right but I didnt pay to much attention to it.

      I will look into that.

If that checks out what would be the next item you would investigate?

One more item. If I do have a non-firing cylinder, what other item besides spark plugs could cause that? Coil for that cylinder?

Swap the coils and see if it's the same..... Left= 1&4.....Right= 2&3....you may simply have a fouled plug.

You mean that the RPM's would go up, bike the bike wouldn't go faster? If so, yes, your clutch is slipping.

The rpms were not changing, the bike would chug and jerk as you try to gain speed.

Then it has nothing to do with the clutch slipping.

Hey it sounds like youre having the same issue I am having on my bike... youll rev the engine and it doesnt seem like it wants to go like it should.... and then it will suddenly surge back to normal?

i solved the issue, it was fouled plugs.

I put in new plugs and problem is solved for now.

well the plug for the 3rd cylinder was lose and I noticed there was gunk above the threads on the plug, it could of simply of been that.

But the plugs were black, so im definetly rich.

My thoughts are that I did install a jet kit, and I did up the size of my pilot jet from 12 - 15. I may just need to turn my air/fuel screws in a little to lean out my mixture. At lights I do occasionally smell gas, I am hoping that it may be that simple.
