so I was reading the HOW TO for the coil relay mod, and I know this is going to sound like a stupid question but what does that do for your bike?

It's not just starting. By-passing the tired wires and connections on my 155000km '93 transformed the bike from start-up to redline. A couple of extra volts reaching the coils and getting their input back to 12V+ is a lot of extra voltage on the output side which equals a bigger, cleaner spark. The difference on my '05 was not as extreme, but still noticeable. For <$20 and 2 hours including congratulatory beer, it's a very worthwhile mod IMHO.
