  • Uk - USA headlight

Is there any fundamental difference between the headlamp on 99 Kat on UK and US version?

I am in need of replacement headlight and finding difficult to get one, but found one in the US, will this work in UK model?

    TIA

the actual headlamp unit should be exactly the same from 98-2006... only difference would be reflector masking in the front.. 98-02 had all silver reflector and surround, 03-06 has silver reflector and black surround.

the suzuki part number is the same at least for 98-02

I wonder if there is a difference in light output like it would be with cage headlights (us driving on the right hand side of the road and all). Now I am curious.

This is my main concern, we obviously drive on the correct side of the road .

I dont know about UK but Norway and Denmark models only have low beam on one side and high beam on both sides. US models have low beam on both sides

Yea I know that low works on both sides definitely. Still curious about the cutoff. I don't think it would be a problem remembering back to the last time I rode at night, but I am not exactly sure. Worst case you could always do the tape trick

They are different due to the kick up to the left on UK models (covering the footpath and verge).

Robinsons http://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/ can do you one for £350. ish I just spoke to them a week or so ago about this.

As for used on Ebay - they are like rocking horse s**t.

What's the problem with the one you've got ?

This should answer your question, and yes it is as bad as it looks!

Oh yes, now I remember your other post about the spill.

Think there is a discount for Suzuki Owners Club Members from Robinsons but still over £300.

I'm sure you are about to receive a suggestion to 'fighter' it.

I want one because my headlight unit is splitting between the lens and reflector but I've managed to get it through the MOT so I'm not in a hurry for it.

I've tried all the breakers in the Durham Newcastle areas without success. If I find anything I'll let you know.

Considerng the new cost I would say you've got a bargain mate - well done.

Maybe meet up sometime when you're up and running again.

the UK bikes use different bulbs, one bulb lights at a time
American bikes both bulbs light on high or low

That wouldn't necessarily be a problem. I think the major problem is the light cutoff. In the USA the right side is higher than the left due to us driving on the right side of the road. In the UK the left side is higher because they drive on the left. If he were to put an unmodified US headlight in there he would be blinding oncoming drivers.

                              Hi guys,
I got an new old stock headlight, however this has a different bulb system than previous. My old one had twin filament x2 bulbs installed. The new one has twin filament (H7 type) layout on the left side, when sitting on bike, and single filament (H1)on right side.
My problem is, is this layout ok for the UK and will the existing triple socket plugs work on new bulbs?

                              TIA
