Curious about swapping my 600 for a diff. engine

I've had my 96 kat 600 for a year now. I love the wheelbase and the way it rides, I'm 6'5'' and dont like being completely balled up, but I'm no longer satisfied with the amount of power and torque it has. I dont want to get a different bike, but I'm curious about an engine swap. Has anyone ever swapped an engine from a 600, to something with more torque and power? I'm curious how much work is involved, or how much fabrication I'll have to do.
