    Well , my torque wrench read up to like 200ft/lbs , and when I use it to loosen things like that , I'll crank the reading way up above what the nut actually is . I compared my wrench to someone else's LITTLE wrench a couple weeks ago at the little wrench's min. reading (I think 6ft/lbs) , and they were spot-on .

      EASIEST METHOD: (I use this all the time)

      Use a very large set of channel locks and hold the sprocket, then use a breaker bar with a impact 32mm socket on it. Comes right off. I cna do it by myself, but a helper makes it easier.
      I've owned over 70 Katanas - you think I know anything about them?

        finally got the nut out... drove the bike to a little garage around here, first shot with impact and the nut was free.. Nothing to do with wrenches... tried everything with a 3 feet tube

        By the way, mine is EXACTLY 1 1/4 in... at least for the 1988 600... yeah this is not metric but fit PERFECTLY

          That's the socket I use . It's basically the same as a 32mm as I understand it .

            32 mm is 1.259839 inches..
            The problem is that there is a clearance built into the socket.. An 1" socket is not 1.00 inches.
            it is larger to:
            a. accomidate nuts that are larger due to
            material and manufacturing quality.

            b. allow it to be put on and off easily.

            So. A metric socket will be 32mm + the metric clearance. An SAE socket will be 1.250 + the
            imperial (inch) clearance..
            (Standard tolerance is 1/64" so it is possible
            that this applies to wrenches)

            OK I found it..
            It is ISO standard 691:2005
            the actuall text costs 40,00 CHF (Francs??)
            ISO 691:2005 specifies tolerances on wrench and socket openings for screws and nuts (or similar parts) having metric width across flats dimensions. It gives, for each dimension, the tolerances for general use, defined by its two deviations, minimum and maximum, with respect to the nominal value. These deviations have been determined in relation to the width across flats tolerances for screws and nuts specified in ISO 4759-1 and with regard to the manufacture of tightening tools.

              In the spirit of completeness:

              A high quality 3/4 nut measures 0.747 across the flats.
              A good 3/4 wrench mesures 0.762 on the open end.
              0.772 on the box end.

              more:
              open end:
              1/4 = 0.252"
              1/2 = 0.507"

              8mm = 8.1 mm
              12mm = 12.15mm
              16mm = 16.15mm

              Note a 1/2 socket had a min ID of 0.507, however
              sockes are shaped like petals, arcs in a hex shape.
              A 1 1/4 open end wrench has a span of 32mm exactly.. so as a socket I bet a good 1 1/4 would fit very snug on a 32mm nut..

              I think I have beaten that to death.. I'll stop now..

                Huh ? So in a nutshell , a 1.25" socket is pretty much a 32mm , I think .
