  • One of my 4 Header Pipes is Cold!

    Bike: 2002 Katana 600 | 6500 miles

Ok, I stumbled upon this problem after rebuilding the carbs. At first, header pipes 2 & 4 [looking from Left to Right, sitting on bike] were cold upon startup(idle). I cleaned all the spark plugs, reinstalled, pipes 1, 2, and 3 are now getting hot, however header pipe 4 is still cold. I switched spark plug 3 & 4, and 4 is still cold when idling, 1-3 are hot.

My question is, are all 4 header pipes supposed to be hot when idling?

If so, are there any tips on how to get this cylinder [4] to fire? Or is it a coil problem?

    Thanks for any responses y'all!!!

yes, they are all supposed to get hot. I would start at the pilot jets, but you already did that.

Yes I did, but it's worth a tear down, re-cleaning to avoid future frustration! However...I haven't messed with the screws on the bottom of the carbs yet...the ones with the brass caps on them.

Then you haven't cleaned the carbs. Get those things cleaned up and see what you get. Entirely possible #4 is cold because there's no fuel going in there.

Good Deal! Thanks guys, I'll get on it tomorrow and hopefully post good news!

Not to nag, but IF it happens to be the coil, would all coils from 98-06 fit? With regards to it being a 600 motor?

          Thanks!!!

Thanks a lot! I found out with a tester that the coil/spark plug is actually working properly, the cylinder, however, is not getting fuel, so I shall fix this issue tonight!
