Check and clean all the connections coming into, out of the cdi, then any connections between the coils and pick sensor.

i cleaned every plug with a little strip of 320 sand paper and blew them out with compressed air, checked for continuity in every wire from front to back. my cdi is a solid unit and wont come apart, its filled with rubbery stuff. my suzuki dealer said i should buy a newer bike so now it personal i have to fix this thing. i bought this bike in a bunch of boxes so its a total project. every thing so far has been like this but this is the first time ive been stumped. the carbs had the choke jet and main switched around and no bowl gaskets. i did have it running on 2 cylinders #2&#3 and thought it was just coils so i have four coils now and they all fire on 2&3 but not 1&4

You could probably find a cheap one on egay to rule out the cdi? Or possibly someone on here.

Try and jew them down to $30 shipped since they don't accept returns. Are you positive you cleaned the terminals coming off the box?

yea im pretty convinced they are clean, ive been sanding little prongs since 6:00 maybe the female end of the plugs cause they are really hard to sand. i just used a carb round wire brush and air for those. that ebay listing is for a 90 and mine is a 98. i found a different one for 45ish.

technically, yes they do take returns. ANY seller on eBay takes returns up to 45 days. Ebay will MAKE them, with their buyer protection thing. Technically, the "no returns" policy, yeah it's worthless

ive been looking at my wiring diagram so im gonna get serious on this wiring loom and remove and clean every ground on this bike. there are two unused plugs on here one is the kick stand switch , i looped the circuit, the other is a plug on the right side up by the right blinker connection. its a four pin with a redwire thats constant hot, a orange with white that is switched hot and a black with whit and back with red. its the plug for carb cooling fan california model i think, would it need to be looped to complete a circuit?

that's what it is. No, you don't have to do anything to it.

let us know if that corrects the problem
I don't think that's the cause, but I have been wrong before

I have nothing to add really until the CDI has been tested/swapped.

I have extras pre and post on hand just to test such things... both coils and CDIs.

                              Good luck with that.
