  • Speedometer off

If my speedometer over-reports my speed by around 10mph after around 10-15mph, should I expect that my odometer is also registering higher than actual mileage?

Also, I know there should be a 5-10% inaccuracy, but at lower speeds I'm looking at ~15-66%, is there anything I can do about this? Simply put, if I'm going 20 the gauge reads 30, at 30 the gauge reads 40, etc.

It just occurred to me that I could test myself whether the odometer and speedometer are consistent with each other by riding at ~60mph (shown) for 10-20 minutes and watching the mileage. I'll go try that now.

Odometer may or may not be off, it depends on why it's off. If it is the speedo mechanism, than the odo is OK if it is your tires than the odo will be off too.

    Pre 98 or 98+??
