  • 00" 750 valve adjustment question.

So I have been getting a bad vibration in the bike, So I figured it was time to adjust the valves. Hasn't been done since I had the Bike.
So for sh..s and giggles I checked them before i started. I could not get any of the feeler gauges in the space for the adjustment. I set them to spec.

My Question is: How can I be sure that the tightness didn't mess anything up? Not sure how long they been that way, and yes I checked everything cold..

It seems to run ok, just a little more noisy. Idles well, even better then before..

Humm. Are you absolutely certain you used the correct feeler gauges?
I would think it's a little uncommon for every single valve to be tight.

(If memory serves me right) I believe the intake are supposed to be 0.004" - 0.006" and the exhaust 0.007" - 0.009". (not 0.07-0.09)

Actually on my 01 it was the same way, but yeah i would go in the mid of specs like i think intake is at min .08 i would go .10 i cant remember the right messurements right now but go mid i had a bit of a problem when i went tight on mine as well.

Well, I went straight off the book and it was in mm. I even got a mm feeler gauge to get it right..
I set it in between the spec range... So I guess it should be fine????

from a cars perspective on most of the engine now a days it magnetic feel when u use the gauge. meaning a slight drag when ur at the desired measurement. If that was me and it felt tight i would've loosen and back off alittle. but then again i might be wrong cause i'm a auto tech not bike tech. also make sure the cam and rocker is rotated at he right spot (again going wat i know about cars and not bike) maybe they are the same, i'm not sure.

ok, I figured it out.. I have to redue the valve adjustments, we read the in. side not the mm. side... lol, lmao, glad I only put about 15 miles on it...

If you have not done the cam chain tensioner spring (less than $10) do it at the same time you have everything apart

I had a couple valves that were tight on my 04 750 when I did them a couple weeks ago

When I bought my bike, it ran like crap. The shop I bought it from was some cheap hole in the wall which I never should have dealt with. I opened up the valve cover, and couldn't fit even the SMALLEST feeler gauge between almost all of the spaces.
Adjusted all the valves, the bike has been running great since then.

Well, thanks for all the info.. I readjusted the valves, ran it for a min, 10:30pm kids sleep. sounds better... I'll finish putting together tomorrow after work and take it for a ride...
