Starter problem?

I've had a problem with starting my bike occasionally where the it seems to 'jam' for a bit, if I keep hittin the start button the lights will dim a bit, and eventually it will spin again and start the bike fine, it will only jam once per start and it runs excellently. Could it possibly be a dead winding in the starter or maybe broken teeth on the gears?

Have your battery checked first, but sounds like a duff starter.
