  • Getting the bike ready for summer

I have on '03 Kat. Very reliable and fun. I ride to work everyday from April to Sept in any weather. It has about 20k.

Last season I had the valves adjusted and brake pads done. In '06 I had the carbs cleaned. I do minor repairs and oil changes, repair shop does the stuff I can't find time to do.

What is mandatory to do before I take it out this year.
A buddy of mine suggested I replace the brake lines.
    What about tires?
Is another carb cleaning something I can do myself?
    Any other suggestions?

I'd assume they did a carb synch with the valves? If not...you should look at that. check the katriders wiki page for carbs 101 and 102...to see if you think you can handle it....other than that, perform a search the site for the shop manual which has the recommended maintenace schedule and details. Good luck.

Brake lines depends on your braking performance, if maintained (fluid change done)...are they spongy? If so, it maybe due to a weakness in the line requiring a change....some owners change them as upgrades to SS lines...better response...longevity and look i suppose.

Tires...worn? flat spots? dried and/or craked? change.

Check the manual....lots of useful info...
