quick adjusting float height question

I understand your supposed to measure from the lip of the bowl to the top of the float, but where do you make the measurement? in the middle of the carb, on the side closest to air intake? where? You can different measurements depending where you place the ruler on the lip of the bowl.

i usually look at the tallest part of the float

Tallest point of the floats, and on the sides of the carb body lip.
