Well, I can't answer specifically for a pre 750. I have swapped the gasket on my post 600 and it wasn't bad at all. Just keep in mind that to drop the oil pan, you need to remove the header, so you'll need new header gaskets as well. While you're dropping the oil pan, if it hasn't been done to your bike already, you may want to consider adding the shift kit and or a fumoto valve for easier oil changes. The fumoto valve does require modifying the oil pan though, at least on the post Kats.

Also, tighten up your pans bolts. They can vibrate loose and cause a leak when the gasket is actually ok. I still had a slow leak in mine after I patched a hole last week. So, there was one Allen's bolt that was a little loose that was contributing to the leak. After I tightened it, the leak is 100% gone.
Hope this helps save you some time and money.sigpic"Walt Dizzl in the hizzl ." Disease Specialist/Katana Cycling Enthusiast

Remove the front header bolts, loosen the rear muffler mounting bolt. Let the exhaust drop. Remove the oil pan bolts (make note of where they go, as they are different lengths). Remove the pan, replace the gasket.
Oh yeah... drain the oil first.
