My old '81 gs400e back in the day had a gear indicator on it... wonder if it's the same part number.

I'd love to retrofit my Kat with a gear indicator to the right of the hi-beam/oil light on the dash...

Since this is a new thread; and there seems to be some good info in those others. I may help to gather some here. I found this a while ago and contemplated doing it myself just never got around to it yet.

Not sure who's but not mine.

I have a zip file also but don't know how to put it on here.

Thanks Astro... a good winter project.

Other than the GS1100 neutral switch (or modded Kat part) and seven segment display d'ya also need a IC circuit box fabbed up? Is there a GS1100 part to use rather than fab up a IC circuit box?

Yes, direct swap and yes 7 wires.

Yes had to build the circuit and not sure on the GS part in place of this. Did the GS have a 7 segment LED, heck were 7 seg LEDs even around then, LOL. My buds GS has a gear indicator but it's not digital. If you want digital, you'll need this circuit. I'm going to change mine up this winter and put it in the tach face bottom center, I'll refine the circuit and it's connections at that time. Right now I'm still running the prototype so the wiring is not as neat and compact as it can be. Going to check the dash connector too to see if there are any unused pins there that can be used for the gear indicator so that you wouldn't need to drill holes in the back of the gauge enclosure.

LED's, good point I forgot how far technology has evolved in the last 20yrs...

My buddy is gonna help me with the circuit box so I think I'll just purchase the GS1100 gear indicator part so i don't have to screw around with soldering a bunch of wires that are be buried inside the mechanical workings of my bike.

I'd love to get my hands on a cheap gear indicator thingie before I install my replacement engine... I can sort out the electrical down the road.
