  • Chatter and buzz...

For the longest time, I thought I just needed to do a valve adjustment. The Kat (a 92 750 motor) was just making all kinds of tapping noise. After the valve job last season, the noise got a little better, not much. I'm thinking it's the cam chain tensioner spring, but honestly don't know how to check without tearing the Kat down.

If it's a given that the valves are adjusted properly, what else could it be other than the CC tensioner. Valve guides?? (do Kat motors HAVE valve guides???). And, is there a diagnostic to know for sure what's up without tearing into her?

Performance-wise, my Kat's top shelf. Very solid, lots of power...

I know, I may just have to get used to the chatter and buzz, but if I can fix it, I'd like to try.

hmmmm...since I haven't had any experience with what your mentioning I have nothing positive to say.

      Odd that no one's commenting.

taking the CCT spring out is really easy, I have no idea what the free length is (I have an APE manual CCT) PM CP.

The replacement spring doesn't cost that much... but lemme tell you... USE A TORQUE WRENCH on that bolt. You can snap it REAL easy.

So it's a gimme the the sewing machine noise I'm hearing is the CCT spring then?

If that's all it CAN be (since I did the valves with only marginal improvement), then kewl... next wrenching weekend will include a CCT spring replacement.

It's a 92 Kat 750 motor w/ 15k miles; and, like I said, power is not an issue... just noise.
