  • 1995 Kat shuts off when running on less than 93 octane

When running, if i do not use 93 octane gas, my bike will backfire occasionally, and every once in a bit, shut off and require me to start it back up again in order to keep running. If I run 93, however, the bike will run just fine. What would cause this?

prolly in need of a good cleaning and a tuneup. should run well on plain ol 87 octane. Start by SeaFoam a few tanks, stepping down the octane level each time. read the can for the oz per gallon mix ratio

Only reason a bike would NEED high octane is massive compression levels , or massive carbon deposits causing hot spots and/or upping compression and causing pinging .
