oiled air filter

so i oiled my air filter bike ran like **** its a after market filter.my buddys going to bike mec school his teachers told him that when someone brings a bike in the first thing to do if its a oiled air filter is to clean it and dont oil it then dino it.so i cleaned the oil back off and walla it runs great.they told him that theres no reason to ever oil a filter after market or not.
what do you tink about that

well i dont know as far as bikes go....

but cars you deff clean and re-oil aftermarket filters like K&N's....
