  • How to find air leak?

Got the Metzeler Z6's "the unofficial tire of katriders" on my bike today. [edit] OK... that part is off topic. I'm just happy to have new tires... it was on my mind.. and... i said it. sorry. my bad [/edit] The mechanic who is supposed to be the bombdiggityest Zuki specialist in the county said that he immediately heard an air leak in the thing.[edit] the thing being the motor[/edit] I can let him find it for $68, or maybe... i can find it myself

So he said that all he does is take a "solution" and spray it onto the lines, and when the engine revs up then he basically found the leak. Essentially, spraying some type of fuel (techron or seafoam maybe?) on the lines. If there is a leak, then it will get sucked up and rev the engine.

Sound right? Is there a better way?

What solution should i use? Should i cap off the "vent"? The fuel tank lines? Any ideas, tips, tricks, threads, how-to's etc?

Spray starting fluid in small spurts at different areas around your engine. Airbox/petcock, right side carb, etc. When the motor revs up a bit, you've found the area of the leak.

Carb cleaner works too. Just spray it all over, and if the engine rev's up, then you have a vacuum leak there.

Actually, most anything works. WD40, for instance. Heck, you could use water in a windex bottle, if you wanted to. I once knew a guy who used red spray paint 'cause that was all he had at the moment.

What you are doing is temperariary sealing the leak, which causes the fuel/air mixture to richen for a moment. That plus the more even f/a mixture on all cylinders is what causes the engine to run smoother for that short time.
