  • Is this a normal sounding engine?

Possible problem with motor , any suggestions? Runs fine and had valves adjusted 100 miles ago.

Sounds like the valves but they were just done 100 miles ago.
Bike is running fine except from 10k up , sometimes it dosent rev through to redline and sometimes I get a strong surge .

    Any thought?

Sounds like timing chain slap. May need some new guides and tensioner.

I would check the valves before turning that thing on again. Maybe someone forgot to tighten a nut, adjusted one with the crank in the wrong position... dunno

'89.. I have no idea how to adjust those valves. Probably not like my '00 750. But you get the idea.

yes it is. Yeah, I'll go with the loose lock nut. Does it get worse when it warms up?

Don't run it again..... just my thought. Pull the valve cover.

Well , I did the valve job myself and it has the adjusters instead of shims . I went over it twice so I'm pretty sure the valves are good. It runs fine but sounds like crap under 2k. Dosent get worse when warmed up , actually a little better.

As for the pebble thing , thats unlikely. I had the whole exhaust off to paint not too long ago and the bike never leaves my site. Only ridden from garage and back.

Thanks for all the feedback . Im thinking for now it may be the chain....
                          what else you guys got?

                            cam chain, not drive chain

gets better when it's warmed up eh? You don't think it's the valves, think again.
