  • Engine Swap is beginning...........

Well the 01 Kat 750 donor bike is no more...let's all have a moment of silence...........................

The 4K mile 750 donor waiting to be cleaned and gotten ready for transplant into my 91 Kat 600

Tomorrow night will be a clean up job on the engine. Then check / adjust the valves (just a BIT easier with it out of the bike).

Then I'll start tearing my Kat down in prep to receive it's new heart.

So what's the concensus on the easiest way to get the new motor in?

    I was thinking:

    - Strip my Kat down
    - Remove front wheel
    - Drop the old engine
    - Jack the Kat up and get the engine underneath

Can I just leave the new engine on the cradle? Will it bolt up to the pre frame or not? (That would be TOO easy huh?)

All those who have done it, thanks for any input

I will update as progress continues.

Ivan's Jet kit for the 750 carbs is on the way and my pre 98 750 CDI and oil cooler came in today.

    Yo -

I dropped the 600 motor and rolled it away, then brought in the 750 without taking down the front end. Just make sure you have everything unplugged before you drop the 600.

And, at least on the pre's - the cradle is the same. No issues whatsoever.

What did you roll it on?

I've been thinking about throwing something together with some 2x4's and some HD rollers / castors to make it easy..

we used a 2' square dolly... worked just fine. The motor only weighs around 160 lbs so just about anything on wheels will work.

I used 2 other people . We had the bike strapped to a pipe stand , took the front wheel off , engine was tied to a skid (made it easier to carry) , and the bike was lowered onto the engine . STILL sucked , though .
